Hop Into Fostering

Foster with Us

Hoppy Tides is a foster-based rescue, which means we can only help rabbits when loving homes like yours open their doors. Many of our bunnies come from shelters or have been abandoned outside with little hope. Foster homes give them a second chance—a safe harbor to heal, grow, and prepare for their forever families.

Fostering is ideal for families who aren’t ready to adopt or want to test the waters of rabbit companionship. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience to watch a frightened rabbit bloom into a confident, curious, and happy companion.

Types of Bunny Fosters at Hoppy Tides

At Hoppy Tides, every bunny deserves a safe and loving home — even if it’s just a temporary stop on their journey. We offer different foster options to match your lifestyle, whether you're in it for a weekend or the long haul!

  • Relief Foster: Be a vacation hero! Step in when one of our regular fosters is out of town. These short stays help keep bunnies comfy and stress-free until their usual foster returns.

  • Short-Term Foster: Perfect if you're new to fostering or have limited time. Short-term fosters usually last less than 3 months and are ideal for young buns, post-surgery recoveries, or rabbits transitioning between homes.

  • Long-Term Foster: Some bunnies need a little extra time to find their forever homes — whether they’re older, shy, or have special needs. Long-term fosters provide a stable and loving environment while these hoppy friends wait for the right match.

Hop by Hop: Become a Foster

1. Fill Out the Foster Application

  • Complete our quick application to tell us about your household, experience, and preferences. This helps us match you with a rabbit who fits your home and lifestyle.

2. Speak With Our Team

  • After reviewing your application, a team member will contact you to answer questions, explain next steps, and provide guidance for new fosters.

3. Prepare Your Home

  • We’ll help you get set up with a safe, rabbit-friendly space and the essential supplies your foster will need. This can include an x-pen, litter box, food dishes, and more. Be sure to check out our Bunny Essentials page for a list of recommended items to help you prepare your foster space.

4. Meet Your Foster Rabbit

  • Once everything is ready, we’ll match you with a rabbit and arrange a safe, scheduled hand-off to bring them into your care.

5. Provide Daily Care, Enrichment & Vet Support

  • Fosters give rabbits a clean, stable environment, daily meals and hay, gentle interaction, and lots of love. You'll also be responsible for transporting your foster rabbit to any scheduled vet appointments — don’t worry, we’ll guide you through it and provide support as needed.

6. Share Photos and Progress

  • Help your foster rabbit get adopted by sending us photos, personality notes, and updates we can share with the community.

7. Support the Adoption Journey

  • When your foster finds a forever home, we’ll coordinate the transition—and if you're ready, you can welcome another bunny in need.
